Here is the situation -

I currently live outside the United States and have about 45K of AES debt. I am considering calling them offering to pay 50% of the outstanding debt immediately if they forgive the other 50%. As I live outside the country and do not care about my US credit rating, is this a good idea....Is it even possible?

I don't want to screw myself as you never know where life takes you and one day, I may move back to the US, but as of now, no intentions. Just looking to provide a larger sum to AES in leiu of paying it off in full. Not sure if that has been done and whether they would consider it

I am current with the loans so pursuing a judgement is not an option. If I remain out of the country for the remainder of my life (which is the plan), I guess the SOL can tol to my heirs and then their heirs (assuming they want to spend the money collecting on a foreign debt.)

I am in the same situation with the exception that I still reside in the U.S. I would like to know how to settle with AES. Originally, I borrowed $50K in private student loans that has now grown quickly to $80K. I want to pay them the original principal but cannot afford the current balance of $80K. I have tried to work with them on the this but with no luck. Any advice would be immensely appreciated! THANK YOU!!!
