Calls at work

They are contacting me at work. One of these "jacks" called the secretary where I work and told her I owed them four hundred and something dollars! They didn't even ask to speak to me--just called and told whoever answered. Surely this is not legal. I would like some advise on how to stop these calls. My employment is secure. My job is not being threatened. But the calls are annoying. Also, please someone assure me that they can not garnish my wages. The man I spoke with at the Dept. of Banking and consumer Finance told me these companies were not licensed in my state. His advise was not to pay them another dime. Can these illegal places garnish my wages?

There is really no way to make them stop calling except to pay them. Legally, they must stop when you tell them to stop, but obviously they do not really care about what is legal.
As for garnishing your wages, they would need a judgment to do this and that is not going to happen. You do need to send them a letter to revoke wage assignments and provide a copy of this to your HR Dept.
Morally, you did borrow the money, so you should pay back the principal borrowed.

The only way they can get to your wages is to garnish and to do that they need a judgement in civil court. Since they are illegal they can't do that.
If you I were you I would make sure you have a wage revocation on file with your HR/Payrool department just to be safe.
I would explain to your job that you are a victim of fraud, which is true, and these people are harrassing you for a debt you do not owe.
what is a wage revocation?
What is a wage revocation exactly? I have explained that I am a victim of either fraud or mistaken identity. They people at work know I have shut down my bank account because of these people. By the way, I borrowed $500.00. I paid back over $1200.00. I think I am morally okay here.

If you go here and scroll down to the template letter you can read the wage revocation in the letter. It is a simlple sentence or two. You can create your own and leave it with payroll to put in your file just in case they try that route.
Wage Garnishment and Wage Assignment are two different things.
Wage Garnishment and Wage Assignment are two different things. Garnishment needs a court order but Assignment it usually located in your pdl contract giving the pdl company the right to your wages if you do not pay them. Assignment is voluntary and revocable by you thats why you need to write a short letter to your HR Dept revoking any and all wage assignments they may receive on your behalf. These illegal companies cannot get a garnishement because no court would give an illegal unlicensed pdl company that order.

Morally you really are more than fine, you have paid more than twice what you had to. I have found that telling them not to call my work normally works, strangely enough. They know they are not legal and cannot do anything else to you but harass you.
