Hi can asset acceptance sue me if I'm in California or do they have to hire a local lawyer

Thanks

Kari

Depending on which company they are calling themselves they may or may not be able to legally collect in California.

Info please:

How much is the debt?
What is it for?
When did youlast make payment?
Did you receive a valid summons with a court docket number and the court stamp on it?
Have you received anything from them in writing?
Have you sent them a Validation Letter?

Send them a DV letter and make them prove their abilities to collect. Don't worry about the intial 30 day window, i did it after a year and they sent papers that they drew up and I kept rejecting them as inadequate and finally I received a letter from the "staff attorney" stating that she had reviewed the information and it was all in order and they would go ahead with the suit. I once again sent them a letter stating that they had failed to legally validate the debt and that according to the California Sec of State they were not license to operate in the state. Never heard from them again.
