When my ex-husband passed away in November a collection agency named Phillips and Cohen attempted to contact our children to collect on his debts.

I did some checking and they buy up debts from the deceased and then hound and harrass their families to try and get them to pay.

Pure Scum!

What I don't get, is the Commerce department didn't say whether or not they were shutting them down for their illegal practices. Clearly even the article states that it's illegal contact relatives in regards to collecting on a debt. I would assume the Commerce department regardless of how many complaints they had, would shut them down until they did a full investigation.

Sounds more of bureaucracy BS to me.. sorry we can't do anything since there hasn't been that many complaints..

Their tactics remind me of the graverobbers that used to rob the graves of the dead for money several centuries ago. They were considered the "lowest of the low" and apparantly this company does'nt mind being compared to "ghouls". Good job ladies and gents. Harrasing the families of the dead for money. What kind of excuse will you give your creator when on the day of judgement, you will be confronted with the question of "why?" How will you be able to justify this to him? Here's the answer, you won't.
