No wonder CA's can't ever validate your accounts. I have a WAMU account I defaulted on and have been contacted by APEX to collect on it. APEX wanted me to work out a payment plan and said they were collecting for WAMU/SST. I told them I wasn't going to make an arrangement with them til I talked to WAMU. I contacted WAMU to see what my account balance was the last transaction I made on the account and was told that the account was sold to NCO. Well, I called APEX back and started asking questions and found out that NCO had bought the account, that they hired Hilco Receivables to collect on the account and that APEX was a partner company of Hilco. With all that passing of paperwork no wonder things get screwed up.

And that is why people should not pay until everything is validated and in writing.

Lets say you pay NCO. If you just pay them and they are crooked the next thing you know, APEX is calling you. They will tell you to pay and if you say you already paid NCO, they won't believe you. If you have no proof you paid 2 or 3 years down the road and APEX sues you, then what do you do?

On top of that, some of these companies tun together and NCO could tell APEX that you never paid just so they could get some money too. Now you already paid once, have no proof and now are being sued by the other company. Then a judgment gets entered and you pay 2 times.

I have the same situation, I had a WAMU card, that got sold to SST, it was charged off, went to NCO, now Apex has been calling trying to collect, they have never sent me the 5 day dunning letter, and yet SSTcorp (whatever) is the one reporting on my credit report. NCO nor Apex show up on my credit report.
