I am considering using a debt settlement company for my credit card. The interest rate has incrementally crept up to 23.95% which means many more years of payment, mainly interest. The balance is $13,600. If I use this route, does this mean that I will no longer be able to have a credit card? Thanks.

well arjuna i work with a settlement company and you seem to have the same problem most of my clients have which is the interest rate. i can def help you the only way you wouldnt be able to have a credit card is if you file for bankruptcy which in turn you wouldnt be able to have much, from a general loan to a car. my company can help you eliminate this debt all principal no interest which means you would only pay what you owe. also we would be able to eliminate 40-60% of that debt. if you would like to further discuss give me a email at xxxxx.com make sure to leave a number to best reach you at and i will contact you at my earliest conviences NO ADVERTISING ALLOWED_PER TOS>>BOSSY4455

first of all i must say dont take advice from guest advertisers! It may not be in your best interest to use settlement. We would need some more facts on your situation.

Settlement is a great asset that you can use to settle your debts if you cant pay them anymore. you shouldnt use settlement just because your interest rate goes up. There are a few things that you will need to consider.

1. have you tried to call them and see if you can lower it or maybe see if they have a hardship program? usually these will illiminate the % for a certain amount of time

2. do you have other cc debts? if so then maybe you can enroll in a management program were they elliminate the % and you can still keep your credit in tact.

3. Management is best if you can swing the payments. If you cant then consider settlement.

Im a big fan of settlement i used a program myself. But you must know the facts about settlement it is not a easy road. Read up and find out about settlement before you jump in.

And last of all if you do need settlement no you will no longer be able to use your card.

so stop back in and tell us a little more about your situation we may be able to further assist you.

Thanks for providing sense and insight in panic situations. To explain my situation further, I was informed this last week that I may lose my job by the end of 2009. I figured out how I long it would take to pay off my credit card mentioned above with the debt calculator on this site. By paying more than the $400 min. payment and paying $600 each month at the 23.95% interest it would take about 55 months and over $20,000 to pay it off! At this rate, I don't want to fall delinquent on my payments. This is the only credit card I have. I also have a student loan in the amount of $58,000 which I can work with in tough economic times. I have no additional debt (this is plenty!). I have not contacted my credit card company as I am trying to figure out how to pay it down with my time limit here. Over the years since I have had it , the interest continues to increase without explanation-just because!

I am blown away by the interest you and others have in one anothers' predicaments. I am sincerely grateful.

If i were you this is what i would do. I would call them before you get late explain your situation that you will be loosing your job and want this paid off before that happens and see what they can do for you. It will either work for you or it wont,

but if it does not you may need to settle even though you dont want to become late, you are not going to be able to pay it after loosing your job. and you will become late anyhow and not have any funds to settle after you loose your job. I hope this helps. Call them first see what they can do for you if they cant help you stop back and we will help you find the next best solution.

Thats why we are here! listen, if you decide in the end that you will need a settlement company its ok too. As long as your doing something, but you must check all routes and not make one in haste. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a settlement program but it is far from a easy road. It is a long one and your credit will take a definite hit. But if the situation is serious enough then you will need to. But for now, try what i have suggested and get back to us on how it turned out!
