I am SO mad at my bank! I have been a good customer, never had any check bounces (other then the PDL nightmare that was all taken care of)

Well I made a mistake in balancing the checkbook and ended up overdrafted by 150 bucks. I contacted the bank and explained that it was an oversight, but I will fix the problem. I asked them to close the account and set me up on a payment plan, or that I can pay the negative balance in 2 months (I just couldn't afford more then 75-100 payment each month and not get behind every where else)

Well they absolutely refuse to close the account! They won't set me up on a payment plan or close the account until it is in the hole by 1000!!!! Can you believe this??????

I admit I did mess up and will pay off the overdraft, but how can I when they are charging me 5 bucks a DAY for the overdraft and won't even close the account out until it is in the hole by a thousand bucks?

I calculated it..by the two months that it would take me to come up with the money to pay it off, they would have tacked on another 300 bucks! I won't EVER be able to pay it off UNTIL I owe them 1000 bucks, THEN they will graciously allow me to make payments....

I just can't believe they can get away with that! I understand charging for an overdraft, I understand tacking on interest in a payment plan to pay it back...but it looks like to me they just want a ton of extra money. Waiting for a neg balance to reach a thousand in my opinion is flat out robbery.

What I am going to do is make copies of what I CURRENTLY owe, then I am going to tape the conversation of me arguing with them again to close the account. I will pay what I actually owe. Don't know how much it will help me, but at least I can show that what they are doing is unreasonable, I flatly refuse to pay them over 800 extra because of one small mistake.

which putz bank is this?i left NATIONAL CITY for just that reason.same thing, they were so understanding during my pdl crisis.then a cigar company i order from multi-debited when they shouldn't have.despite a paper from them stating this they tacked on daily fees and wouldn't close the account until it got to 500.00 over.sometimes these banks are incredible.

Woodforest....yeah, they were pretty good about the pdls as well but this just flabbergasted me. That they are willing to leave the account open from a neg balance of 150 to 1000 floors me. If they can close it at 1000 and set up a payment plan but not anything less is wrong.

I told them that I am paying the 150 and that is it. The banker snidely told me that I won't be able to get another account. So, I asked if I would be reported if it got to the 1000 and they set up a payment plan....he said I would still not be able to get any account...so I asked him what was the incentive for me to wait and pay back 1000???? Didn't have an answer for that.

OMG! I've dealt with them before, I have a suggestion, not sure if it will help, it did help me though. Send an email to the CEO Robert Marling Jr. I can't remember how I got his email address but I searched the web. Anyway, I received a response back from him and he wiped all my charges off my bank account for NSF, etc.

you might want to consider a different bank..not all banks charge outrageous fees like that..mine does not..they charge you a nsf fee and thats it..have you looked into overdraw protection that could help..my bank pays any nsf check for me b/c of my overdraw protection and its cheaper than the nsf fee.....where i am from woodforest checks are not even taken local bussinesses...not known for being a good bank atleast here..
