My debt was bought by Unifund from JP Morgan Chase in 2005. I have the date of the transaction. Can I legally subpoena the actual invoice so that I know what Unifund paid for my debt? If so, how much would this cost me? Is this admissable in court? Thank you.

No, I don't think that you can check the price at which Unifund purchased your debt from JP Morgan. All that you can do is to send a debt validation letter to Unifund and on getting proper debt validation, you should negotiate with Unifund for a discount on the outstanding debt amount. Mostly, the CAs agencies agree to settle the debt to 40 to 50% of the outstanding debt amount.

Thank you. I've already offered 50% of balance, but they turned it down because of the default judgement. If the judge reopens my case on 3/25, I should be able to renegotiate. Anyway, thanks.
