Pre-BK counseling
We used a company that our attorney arranged for our pre-BK counseling and our post filing course. The name of the company is cinlegal. My husband and I completed it together online and had no problems. Very professional. I don't know if the fees are competitive or not because this was included in our attorney fees.

I used the company recommended by my attorney (GreenPath Debt Solutions) - they offer credit counseling and debt consolidation as well as the pre- and post-bankruptcy counseling. You'll have to do the counseling twice - once before it's filed, and once just before it's discharged.
To my knowledge, they all run about the same as far as price goes - $50 for each session.

Yep - lmale is exactly right - you have to complete one online course prior to your case being filed - it's part of the whole filing process. It's about $50 to do it, and you have to pay that up front via credit/debit card on the site where you take the counseling course. Then you have to take one before your case is discharged, or just shortly after. (My attorney wanted it done before the discharge.) It's another $50.

You should get the information from your attorney. That is what you are paying him for. If you are going pro se, then you really should have gotten that info before you decided. Bankruptcy is a very big decision, and I did not want to enter it blindly. There are too many techincal errors that can be made. We decided that it was better to spend extra and get the help we needed. And we do avail ourselves of him representing us to the full extent possible.

I know this thread was started a while back, but just thought I would add, my hubby & I used CFEFA for our pre counseling - they charged $35 and the post is $15 --- our lawyer gave us a sheet w/ several places on there, this was the cheapest we found and that included a certificate for both self & husband. They were very easy to deal w/ and sent the certificate via e-mail the next day.
