A few months ago my wife received a phone call from a CA requesting payment for a 3-year old debt. Without thinking about it (*sigh*), she gave them our credit card info and authorized a charge to pay off. The amount was for less than $200.

After calling the CA and looking over the facts, I realized this was not even a legitimate debt and demanded, over the phone, that the CA reverse the credit card charges. They did, and I confirmed with my credit card company.

For just under a month now we've currently been getting at least one harassing phone call every day, usually with a message left on the answering machine. I am well past the 30 day DV limit, and with the authorized-but-then-reversed payment of the debt, I really don't know what I can do now.

My main questions are:
Even though I managed to get it reversed, does the payment indicate admission of the debt? Does it matter that the debt was mine personally but my wife was the only one to authorize the payment?

Is it worth sending a DV letter now, 3-4 months after initial contact? They have never sent any validation, just a few basic letters of verification.

The amount is so small (under $200), but they seem to be sending so much time to collect - it seems like the specific caller who handled my call when I demanded the payment reversal is handling it like this out of spite - does it seem that way or is it just my paranoia?

Bottom line: How can I get the calls and VM messages to stop??? How can I get rid of this short of forking out $200 for a completely illegitimate reason???

Any specific info somebody can provide would be greatly appreciated. . .

did you send debt validation? i would send it anyway. i once made a similar mistake, i made a $25 payment for something that turned out to not even be my debt! they kept calling and calling and i sent the dv letter and they dissapeared. i do not know for a fact if it will work or if i even did the right thing but it kind of worked for me.. and if they sell me to someone else i will know to send the dv right away (i know for a fact i never had the credit card they said i did, but i was so stressed out back than i did not even bother to check my own records!)
