I received a call today that was crude and threatening from someone, who it sounds like, has called a lot of people on this post. They said that they needed my information or my lawyers' and that they were letting me know so i could get a lawyer that i was going to be arrested at 7am sharp tomorrow for three charges including fraud for not paying them back for a payday loan. I have never received a payday loan. I applied for some in spring '08 but was denied all of them and these people told me i was granted one in 2007. They refused to tell me when in 2007 or give me a transaction or reference number. They said it was through cashnet and that they worked for them but they couldnt let me talk to any other department. He just kept telling me that the police would have all the documentation for me when they came "to take me to the courthouse" and that I would be "behind the bars for a year and a half" He also said the two people i listed as personal references would be put behind bars for a year a and a half. This is all not to mention that the conversation started with him asking me if i lived at a previous address and worked with a previous employer. When i said no he said "well this must be someone else" and went to hang up. When i foolishly interrupted him and said that hes looking for me, I used to live and work at those places but have moved and switched jobs he interjected with "so you are saying that you were lying on a federally recorded call?" though I didnt lie, I made a point to tell him that i have switched locations. He continued to call me a liar though. Then he called me a criminal, hung up on me he i said "bullshit" and claimed that my using profanity on a federally recorded call would add to my sentence, and when i called a third time after being hung up on for raising my voice, asked me to stop calling because "this is a place of business". I have never received a payday loan, and am wondering if they are trying to scare me because they have all my information from my application. Can they have me taken to prison for a loan? (even though it doesnt exist?) If anyone could let me know what is going on, what power they have and what they can do to upset my life i would really appreciate the advice.

Guest pay these idiots no mind. They are using whatever information you entered online to intimidate you into paying a false debt. This happenes every day and you are not alone in this situation. First you CANNOT be arrested for a debt, for it is a CIVIL matter not a CRIMINAL offense. Second, DO NOT volunteer any additional information, they are phisching for something to harrass you on. The more you entertain them the more they will pursue you. Third, give them the DIAL TONE immidiately when they call. Keep strong and hang in there :D

boy we can start a whole foroum on these jerks! Do not give them any information and do not let them scare you. they call me too (at work) and i am sure they got my info from a payday loan who turned me down.. in other words my guess is that the webpage is a set-up scam but i have no idea where they are even from. it is hard to ignore them, as they do not go away, please report them to the agencies, if everyone reports them perhaps they will stop.

This is the same bunch I'm getting calls from! Althought, I'm getting Jack. He mentioned the court house the first time he called. The second time I spoke with him, I told him that I had already contacted my local court house and that they told me not to pay 1 red cent until the provided me with documentation fo the debt and that they could prove that I owed it. So.....now their going to the courthouse sceme isn't working!

hey I got a similar call at my work just over a week ago from
a heavily accented man claiming to be collecting for cashnetUSA.When I told him that I had already paid them in full over three month's ago he asked me to fax him the proof
right then and there. When I told him that I had proof at home
he told me I could fax it to him to some non toll free number
I said I would not. Then he proceeded to tell me that I would be served at 5:00 PM the next day I said what's your delay
serve me now. Then I asked him what county I lived in etc.and he could not.So again he called me aliar and hung up on me.The next day I wrote a letter to Cashnet USA return receipt explaining this conversation and copy of the proof that I had paid them.It just boiled me that someone was still
trying to collect on this debt that I had already paid so I decided to yank his chain instead.

i recorded the calls, too but nobody seems to care, my state's attorney general wants no part of it.

Did they tell you that? How exactly did they respond upon complaining? Interesting that an Attorney General who was voted into office would refuse to do a job they were voted in to do. That would prompt me to complain to a higher office.

shazzers, i am so fed up with them! any complaint you submit to them automatically results in an email saying it has been forwarded to the FTC. i am getting harrassed at work by these people and they send it to the FTC? i called and explained that i already did report them to the FTC and was told that the FTC is who deals with it.
it's frustrating because other states attorney generals get involved :(

First, you don't need to bother recording anything. It won't be admitted in court - you can't prove who was on the other end. It could only prove a call from that number took place at that time. Nothing else.

There are many, many scams going on. In fact, I just watched Fox News a couple of days ago and they were talking about debt collection call scams - similar to the above thread.

Never verify your name, never ever give any information - just hang up. If you feel you must talk to them (because some of us learned manners and feel it is impolite/rude to hang up on someone) tell them you do not discuss personal information on the phone so send your questions/complaint/charge in writing. BUT - NEVER NEVER give out your address. If they are real, and you truly have a bad account, then they most likely have your address.

Debt collectors are great at lying, threatening, intimidating, trying to make you feel like scum - it's there job and a lot of them are very good at it.

Even if you owe a debt, never ever admit to it. There is a thing called statute of limitations and if you admit to a debt, the timer starts over.

I don't feel sorry for them in the least bit. Look at those contracts (if the print is large enough to read) and, especially for credit cards, they can change terms and conditions whenever they want - and universat default, don't get me started on that one.

Everyone, have a great day AND don't talk to debt collectors.
