Help-Recd Letter Threatening Lawsuit for C/off from Neuheisel Law Firm

-a firm for Cache. It is for 11k and I am not sure-I think it is originally from MBNA. I received the notice a month after it was sent because it went to my former address. I sent a debt validation letter but the letter was sent on 1/28/09. Do they legally have to respond even though it's over 30 days.
Also, if they can get a judgement against me-can they go after my husbands assets(I live in California but these debts were obtained without his knowledge-under only my name and SS#.
We own a home together and have a joint checking but I plan on filing a quit-claim to get my name off of the title and will remove myself from our checking. At the moment I am unemployed and have no other assets?! What can they do?
If they were a reasonable company I could try to settle with them or come up with a reasonable payment plan but from all of the posts on the forum about them they seem to always demand full payment which is impossible.

Being that california is a community property state, I dont know if taking your name off the title is going to do much for you. Are you on the mortgage as well?
Legally they dont have to respond to your DV period. If they wish to continue collecting they must respond. It is more likely they will just send it to another CA and the cycle starts all over again.
