I took out a pdl with a group called SSM back in november at the time money was very tight and I needed to make the rent even if it ment overdrawing my checking account... I was going though my old account history and there are NO signs of SSM trying to collect on it. I surely thought it was paid! I recieved NOTHING in the mail from them asking to collect..or even a call..Now Im getting calls from some wannabe lawyer in New York. First on the caller ID its "legal check and reporting" then when i went to call them back the voicemail said "CCR and assosiates". I finally got ahold of them and tryed explaining to them Im willing to work out a payment plan but I can only afford so much...I was just layedoff Im barely making the bill all around and all I got from them was "you better get your lawyer ready!! and a hangup. Really? this is how they are expecting people to work with them? What should I do? They said they are filing a a case against me for 1500 dollars on a 200 loan in a different state!! Makes no sense. Im scared and stressing out like crazy.

First of all as far as I know, it is not legal to file a suit against you for $1500 when they owe only $200 for a period of only 5 months. Now, even if they sue you to the court, you can easily defend your case because the law does not permit so much interest rate on a loan of $200. Since, you cannot afford to pay them the money they demand, there is no other way but to allow them to sue you for the debt. They can sue you only from the state where you have signed the loan agreement.

Hi zozothedog28,

CCR & Associates are allegedly fraudulent. It is best not to contact them or to speak with them when they attempt to contact you. Also see these phone reports about CCR, 'http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-291-6973' and 'http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-308-1941' - is the phone number that contacted you one of these?

About the original payday loan, here is some info on SSM Group. And one more on SSM Group and other PDLs.

And a lot of info on the site of the incomparable Bud Hibbs:

They are a bottom feeder. Pay them nothing. Do not stress out.

Were you in New York at the time of the original loan? What state are you in now?

I hope this information is of some use in calming your mind down. We will help you through this. Welcome!

Omg thankyou so much!!....Yes! The number was 1-888-308-1941...I did a google search..same as the number above..Wow thease people really are scum. I cant believe it...to think I was stressing out still 3am this morning. This is a huge sigh of relief.

No, I was not in New York at the time of this...in fact I have never been too New York. I'm in Oregon! over 3500k miles away! .....My father who's originally from NY went to Hofstra University in New York.....its a LAW School. I told them that..and whoa did they shut up....(its just better not to get him involved...I would never hear the end of it..lol)

Now as I think to myself....wouldn't a legitimate collection agency...work with you on the phone...give out information..and so forth...?

Once again...thank you for helping me with this.
