I worry that this little 600 will affect my credit score. Do I have grounds to dispute it if it is on there?

Usually they report to teletrack not the 3 bureaus. I am not saying it has never happened, but if it does appear dispute it and I am almost certain it will be removed especially if they are an illegal unlicensed pdl.

Yes. You do have grounds to dispute it. You need to tell the collection agency that they are trying to collect on an illegal debt. Since it is illegal you are only obligated to payback the principal amount. Who is the collection agency? Have you received anything in writing from them yet?
I would send them a dv letter first. They cannot continue to contact you until they have validated the debt.
There is a form letter on here that you can use to dispute it with your credit report. Are you for sure that it's on your credit report yet? I just had an old one go to a collection agency and it turns out its from an illegal company as well. I haven't received anything in the mail yet. They've only tried contacting me once by phone. I did speak with them and told them to not call me again.
But the answer to your questions is yes, you do have grounds to dispute it.
I hope this helps.
I have seen it happen before. Dispute it with the credit bureau.
I have seen it happen before. Dispute it with the credit bureau. Most likely if the PDL is ILLEGAL it will work in your favor. If they do not respond to the credit bureau inquiries then hopefully it will be removed. Good Luck!
