You need to do more than just show up, you need to respond to the complaint. What state do you live in? When was the last time you paid on the account in question?

Even if you file an answer to the summon and the creditor succeeds in getting a judgment against you, they can either garnish your wage or your bank account. If they garnish your wage, all the creditors can together garnish a maximum of 25% of you wage. However, if they bring judgment to garnish your bank account, they can take away money from your bank account whenever any money gets credited there till the time the judgment money is paid in full.
