I closed my account over 6 weeks ago, moved direct deposit, etc. I just got a call from the corporate office of my old bank that my account is not showing closed. I closed it at a local branch and provided copies of ACH stops, etc. The account was CLOSED. Am I going to be liable for anything

Yes, you are and will be liable for anything that does or tries to clear. They will continue to charged you nsf fees for even returning an item. You need to go back to that branch and make it clear you want to "close" the account, before leaving make sure it says closed.
