This question is in reference to state of Virginia.

If we make roughly 20K more than the median income, is there anyway to qualify for Chapter 7 ?

I am on the verge of losing my job due to chronic disease.
We don't have a huge amount of medical bills, but have roughly 70K in credit card debt.

We have a mortgage (no equity in the house, considering the market) and two cars with no equity.

Without my income, we definitely would pass the means test, but I wonder even if we pass this, would fact that my husbands income is above the median be an automatic disqualify ?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks !!

Nolo is a reliable source of legal information for lay people. They provide a calculator where you can enter your zip code or browse by state and city and fill out information that is used to determine if you qualify

All the usual disclaimers apply but it should give you a clear idea of whether talking to a lawyer regarding Chapter 7 is a real option
