I have been researching which way to go with our debt. I think we are going to go with Four Peaks Debt Settlement. Unless anybody out there tells me absolutly don't do it. But anyway, we owe about $50k in credit cards and I haven't defaulted on any payments yet. The woman I spoke with at Four Peaks said in order to be in the program we have to be behind in payments. Unfortunatly, I am at that point and I am scared to death. I have to not make a credit card payment so I can buy food for my family. I am scared too death of missing payments, I'm scared too sign on with this Four Peaks. What if they are a scam. My husband and I have made some very bad financial choices in the past and that is why we are in this situation. I don't want to make it worse. Any suggestions, comments, advise?

sadly its the nature of settlement. your going to have to let the bills go, in order to settle. be sure to check out the bbb (forget rating its useless we are now finding out, but check to be sure all complaints are resolved)

are they members of the tasc?

google them in many different ways like "is x company a scam" or "dont use x company" or i used x company. research completely before signing the dotted line. and i also have a top ten of things you should ask the company its self if your interested let me know.

Have you read up on the facts about settlement? do you know what to expect, what can, might, and will happen? all this is important so you are not dissapointed in the end.

dont be discuraged or scared if settlemetn is the route you need, i myself needed it once too and it was my life saver but i promise you its no picnic!

It is very natural to be scared. Owing 50k in debt is stressful and having to worry about how you are going to pay it down and put food on the table is overwhelming.

What I would do in your situation right now since you are not late on anything yet is call your creditors. Call them and try to get this months payment waived or ask if you can have an extension. This will buy you some time so that you can sit down and do your research. It will also relieve a little stress by having that money available for your food and any necessities you need.

Don't rush into signing up with any debt settlement company until you have really done your homework on them. Just on this site alone you will find a ton of information on many companies and what people have experienced with them.

Please, please check their BBB rating at bbb.org

As for us, wehad $118k and was 1 month behind when we decided to go with Superior Debt. We've only been in the program 7 months and 3 of my accounts have been settled. It is amazing to know that the right decision was made. At first when Teresa was telling me about the program, have to admit was very skeptical and really did not think it was going to happen. Everything she has said would happen did and have alread referred my mom, sister, and a few friends.

Please do your reseach

im not sure if you are or not, but be prepared tamihashope for your post to be edited. this sort of sounds like a form of solicitation. it may not be, but we are not allowed to suggest companies to use.

girl in debt is right, you still have other options outside of settlement at the moment. you should take the time to explore those first before jumping into settlement. not that there is anything wrong with it, because there is not if you need it, but you may not want to take this route cause it can get ugly sometimes even though it is better than bk, so see what you can do and of course do your research fully so you dont get scammed
