i'm going over and over what our best possible solution to our debt problem. we (mostly I because the cards are under my name) are about $70,000.00 in debt. i've been talking to care one and think that the best thing for me to do is do their settlement plan. It looks like all my cards will be put up in the plan and one unsecured loan. I'm reading complaints bout people getting sued by creditors. What is the likelyhood that I too will be sued? Most of my APRs on those cards are low, however the balance is high and with the acception of a few cards cards who's APR sky rocketed due to one missed payment. is there anyone out there with something positive to say about settlement programs?

first of all did they tell you that it was a loan? if they did run this is why. Settlement is not a loan. What it is is that you stop paying your creditors completely and start saving. meanwhile the settlement company is to start negotiation with the creditors to find a agreement they can all be satisfied with. this is a great way to get rid of debt and quickly if you are in a jam, but be cautious its far from easy. There are many backlashes to settlement and you must know the facts before signing at the dotted line to see if this is really the route you need to take.

you can be sued but usually the cc companies wait atleast a year or two before taking this route. i got sued right at the end of my 2 year mark my lowest account would not budge. But that does not mean that you will not get sued the first year. some creditors are easy some are hard the likely hood of getting sued depends on how long of a program you join if you join a 2 year or less program you are less likely to get sued not that you cant get sued but less likely. there is more you need to know so read up on settlement and find out the facts.

Now, my opinion about something positive? All my cc debt wiped out in 2 years for less than half of the origional debt. Without this program i would have had to file bk wich is alot worse for your credit in the long run and will keep you from being able to get secured loans when settlement is a temporary hit to your credit and it can be restored pretty quickly.

well, we all agree here it is not the rating, but the report on complaints. If all complaints are resolved this is a good sign. the rating means nothing we are comming to find out.(long story) but the bbb can still be used as a useful tool to find out it complaints are resolved and that is what is important

well those places, will do the following..

take small payments from you for several months, not pay your creditors and then once they got "leverage" they will tell the OC , they are going to make an offer and try to settle.. they wait till your too far behind and your credit is messed up, before they can do anything.. then they tell you, well get you %50, well you can get the same thing by not paying either.
