First of all, I have to say that the customer service supervisor I spoke with there was very helpful, so I'm not complaining at all about that. BUT.....

I got a 35% settlement offer from WAMU, which shocked me. It would save me over $6,000. The options were one lump sum or 4 payments. The four payments were still pretty stiff for me, but I'm determined to come up with the money and put this debt behind me. So I went through the online process to sign up for the settlement, and luckily it didn't even require me to set up online payments...it just told me when my four payments would be due in April, May, June, and July. My confirmation page said that I would be getting a letter in the mail giving written confirmation of the arrangement. That was about three weeks ago, and I haven't gotten anything yet. I was going to call and check on it, because I was concerned that with the changeover to Chase, something might have been lost. Sure enough, today I got a letter from Chase saying my account was ready to charge off (my last payment was the end of Sept 08) and that I needed to make a payment of $1500.

So I called them today, and they said that my settlement offer wasn't accepted because the payment dates were too far off in the future. Huh? THEY are the ones that set up the payment dates, not me! And besides, exactly when did they plan to tell me that the offer was rejected? Isn't that the strangest thing?

Anyway, the supervisor said she would talk to a case manager about it and call me back by the end of the week.

She also looked up my other two Chase cards and offered a 60% settlement on another one that was last paid in 9/22/08, and a 45% settlement on one that was last paid 10/31/08. I'm wondering why there's a better offer on the one that's not as far behind?

I don't think I can do anything yet with the 60% offer, but maybe the 45% one....I really need to find an extra PT job, because I don't have anything left out of my FT checks, but I just want to put this nightmare behind me and NEVER owe money to a credit card again.

Any thoughts?
