secured card

I had made some mistakes in the past and was looking to improve my credit score. I've heard from people that getting a secured card that reports is a good idea. Any opinion on which would be a good one to get. I've also heard from people that with these cards with timely payments they can eventually become unsecured cards. Any one with any helpful info or opinions will be greatly appreciated.
