I recently sent a debt validation letter to a collection agency. they failed to respond at all within the 30 days. right before i could send them another letter requesting them to erase this debt from my credit reports, i got a call from another collection agency about the same debt. is the debt still valid and do i have to send this new company another validation letter? what's to keep them from just bouncing it around to other agencies? thanks for any help.

You will need to send them another DV letter to the new CA.

More than likely they cannot validate the debt so just sold it off. Who is the original CA and the new one?

There is only two states that requires that the CA responsed within 30 days, the CA cannot continue collection activity UNTIL they validate the debt. That is why it gets passed on to another agency.

I live in PA. I've had the same issue........if I have MORE than one CA call me, over the SAME debt, should I send a letter to each one of the CA's? What happens if NONE of them respond within a certain amount of time?
