Yeah..I just had this happen to me. GE Money Bank/Walmart account. Was settled for about 55% of the balance. Thought it was all done with. Then started getting calls from a CA. Turns out GE Money sold the "remaining" balance to LVNV.
I DV'd the CA and then within days was sent a dunning letter from Resurgent. DV'd them now. Waiting for the next move by LVNV.
I'm not paying them a cent unless I'm standing in court and after presenting all my settlement docs to the judge I'm ordered into something.
We shouldn't have to depend on special legal mumbo jumbo in our settlement agreements to prevent a creditor from selling the remaining balance.
The offer I received from the local law collection firm GE Money Bank used says they agreed to settle the debt and upon receipt of those funds the file will be closed as the matter has been resolved.
Guess I'll see LVNV in court if they want to push it that far and I'll see what the judge has to say about it. But I won't pay them anything without a court order on this one.

They lie, lie, lie. All they want is money. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING ALL THE TIME! If you don't you suffer. Sad.

Send them a letter explaining that they were defrauded by the company that sold them the account because they were sold an account that was settled in full, no balance owed. Send them a copy of the settlement letter.
Just make sure you keep that settled letter in case you are ever sued on it.
It would be interesting to see how a court case would go if you sued the place you settled with for selling off a debt that was settled in full, that by selling this non-existent debt they have caused you mental anguish from all the harassing phone calls and collection attempts by these other companies on a debt that should never have been sold to them in the first place.
