Amazing. Kinda ties into the Dateline story we saw, where collectors were actually PROUD of calling people's bosses at home, making people so scared they wanted to flee their homes, etc. It just shows that this problem is widespread--and if you are in a situation where you have to pay a creditor, always see if you can pay the creditor directly, NOT the collector.

sdchargers_63 was this CA in Buffalo, NY? I think Today Show is on NBC? I think it might have been some of the same footage that was on DateLine. They sometimes promotes one show on another show like that.
If it was the same footage, it's the footage kscornell referred too. They were all hanging out at a bar and the woman with the hidden camera was asking things like that. I remember when they guy said he called a debtor's boss at the bosses home number one night, in order to embarrass the debtor.
Made my blood boil!
I know we have even said, on this website, that all CA's don't operate in this illegal manner; however, I really think I have personally defied the odds. Every CA I have dealt with, from the time I was unemployed up until today due to getting calls for other people, has gone out of their way to be nasty, unprofessional, and break the law (the FDCPA) in some way. This has always been without me ever initiating the poor treatment by being nasty first; I start out all conversations with CA's as polite and professional as I can be.
And with the economy going down the tubes like it has been doing, it just seems to be getting worse.
The one woman the interviewed from Harvard, I can't remember her name, said the fines CA's face for violating the FDCPA is just the cost of doing business to them. I know we've said that here many times.

Oh, I absolutely agree. If it was, in fact, the same clip they had on DateLine, I was absolutely appalled!
I found it even more sad the way the CA threw the collectors that appeared in the hidden camera footage under the bus; they sent one of those standard letters to DateLine advising all the people in the hidden camera footage had been fired. They stated they don't condone that type of behavior. . . . . .yadda, yadda, yadda.
I'd be willing to bet my left foot that's not the atmosphere in the CA's office at all; they not only condone such behavior, they probably encourage it. Or, barring that, turn a seriously blind eye to it.

I used to work for someone who made BIG bonuses based on his employees sales or production.?? I mean we are talking BIG money, with trips, prizes, cash etc as well on top of the paycheck (of course we only got pennies of his paycheck and weren't involved in the big money!).?? I had a really good referral basis, so I never had to struggle, won top producer every single month for 7 years except for one.?? I THRIVE on competition, and I wanted to WIN, which made me really work hard, I didn't want anyone to beat me!?? Unfortunately there??were a few employees who were jealous and lazy and wanted the easy way,??and when the boss would say to us "make it work", instead??of working harder, they took that to mean that he wanted us to do something, ANYTHING, to??sell that item??...??I know that??he KNEW that some of the staff was doing things that were in the grey area, and he turned a blind eye to it.?? One of the staff got caught by the licensing board who polices us, and ended up getting fired, and her career was over.?? She told the investigators that "he KNOWS" what she was doing, and unless she could provide proof, they couldn't do anything.?? But after that happened they really scrutinized everything that came out of our office, to make sure it was all on the up-and-up.?? I assume that someone in government will set up??some sort of??collection agency police now with these investigations being so public now.
Yes, the CA that sent the letter to DateLind (I forget the name)
Yes, the CA that sent the letter to DateLind (I forget the name) after they saw the hidden camera footage stated in the letter that those people were fired. The CA wasn't one I had heard of before, or had any personal experience with, so the name escapes me.
To tell the truth, I'd be willing to bet those people were able to go to any number of CA's and get a job, this is Buffalo, New York after all. DateLine even made mention about Buffalo, New York being the CA Mecca of the US.

LOL!
I have to say it's been a few months since I've received an actual phone call from a CA too. I have received a couple of letters; one from a CA for Pinnacle and one from Portfolio. That is why I now have two pending lawsuits against each company.
As I've said before, now I'm employed and can start taking care of my past due debts, the CA's are still resorting to chicanery. And thus getting sued when needed. I have managed, however, to take care of one small debt and would love to take care of the rest, I just wish the CA's would realize this and stop jerking me around.
They'd get there money a lot faster and wouldn't be owing me money.

i have dealt with all sorts of collectors, good and bad... the bad ones were so horrible, it's sad but even more than ever people need money. it's crazy how low they will sink..
