My husband passed away on thanksgiving day, 2008..january 2009 hiday & ricke started the investigation to garnish my pay..they can't tell me what it is for but that it goes back to 1988 orginally then from a judgement in 2001 from First Select...I have no idea, or I just can't remember, who they are..I am a widow with a daughter and grand-daughter counting on me..they have garnished almost $500 per month..I have tried to find out how much I owe but they will NOT tell me..I have sent at least 5 e-mails requesting this without recieving 1 reply..at the start the judgement was approx. $3400  and the last time they did talk about money, in Fe., they said I owed $6700..How can I find out how much I still owe? I want these losers out of my life for good.  I feel that I have no control of anything anymore, not if my only source of income can be taken without any warning

I am sorry to hear that you are hit so unfairly during such a trying time and my heart goes out to you. This agency sounds like a bottomfeeder, they have no human decency. Send them that request via certified mail, return receipt. Get a copy of your credit report. Contact your HR company to get the details on the garnishment.

What court did they get this alleged judgment from? Contact that court and find out more. There's just something weird with waiting 8 years to make good on a judgment.

You could also file Bankruptcy and start over with a clean slate.

As you can see, there are a few options. But the important and first thing is to see if we can get these people off of you. What state do you live in, and what state (if different) was the judgment obtained in? You should be able to have it stopped because of it causing you financial hardship.
