I added a Bally's account with Asset Acceptance to my DMP plan. At the time the Asset balance was 1800. The first payment went no problem, but this months payment went through and all of a sudden the balance is 2450. My DMP said they just updated the balance with them on March 10th and that I would need to contact Asset.

What can I do here? Can they just add 650 dollars to this account? Talking to them on the phone will do no good as it never had in the past...this just doesn't seem right to me...

Goldenbast,

any advice as to what i should put in this letter? Asset from what I read is sue-happy, so i'd rather not trigger that. At the same time it doesn't seem right that they suddenly add that much once I went with the DMP. Are their laws against this?

When I validated them originally, all they sent along was the name Bally's and the debt. At the time the balance seemed accurate, now all of sudden it jacked up. I just want to be able to hande this the right way

You can't be afraid of being sued..otherwise they will just bleed you for whatever they feel like! It is your right to demand validation, especially when the amount suddenly changes like that! In the letter you demand to know the reason the amount changed from X amount of dollars to X amount of dollars, and you want documentation allowing them to do this.

If they sue you, you can also demand this information in court. A judge will understand your suspicion over the sudden hike in the bill! Think about it from his/her point of view..if someone did that to them, they sure would demand to know the reason and see documentation proving it!

Besides, what asset sent you before was not honestly proper validation, they need to send you something from bally's NOT rehashed info on their own letter head!

Thanks! I will do this.

Just so I know though, what legal right would they have to raise the fee suddenly like that? I didn't think they were allowed to do that. And it seems odd that in dealing with them prior to my DMP they never once hinted that the amount due was more than 1800 (even when they said i needed to pay in full)
