Zwicker is telling me that American express won't go below 55% - no way, no how. Also -- one of their people told me last month they were filing papers TODAY (as I said, last month). I'm wondering if they'll go down, I'm also wondering if I write to AMX saying that they are trying to collect my lying (which would be illegal) if they would give me a better deal. Anybody have any ideas for me? --- oh, and NO, I'm not going to use a settlement company, they are a waste of money. so, those of you that only reply to get business, you need not waste your time.

I do not know what you mean about those who want only business. That aside I will tell you that I owe AMEX around 6000 dollars but I am not even sure. Do not deal with any collection agency that has your account. It will go back to AMEX and you will have no proof that you paid anything to the collector. Amex has become in recent years, pretty easy to deal with. Send a letter to any collector telling them that you will only deal with the original creditor, AMEX. Yes you are right in one aspect, many debt settlement companies are scams. Settlement as opposed to consolidation.

Yes I did receive a letter and a call "deep low voice saying this is a call trying to collect a debt, we are attorneys but I'm am not an attorney" kind of thing, scared me at first, until I realized for now, they are just another collector. Anything I read on Zwicker is to only to a one time payment settlement - nothing but horror stories on payments being credited wrong -- so if I settle with them I'm going to just do it once, and make sure I get the correct paperwork.

i wouldnt be too concerned with the "threats" until you actually get a paper summons. Frankly they will say anything to scare you into a agreement. I would purchase a little notepad and place it by your phone and document times, dates, what was said, who you spoke with etc.

And if you do come to a agreement that is to your liking, im glad to hear you are going to be sure you have it all in writing before you give them a dime. I hear alot on this forum were people send them money and the company goes back on thier word. That would really stink.

Hey there. Im on the same boat. AMEX and dealing with Zwicker. 30k is what I owe. I also got the letterhead from AMEX offering a payment plan. %0 APR for 6 months. (doesnt do any good)

The issue I have is that im still being charged a 29% APR, thats 600.00 a month!!

When i call AMEX direct they wont deal with me. It seems Zwicker bought the debt.

I suggest we stick together here and keep eachother updated with our status. ITs going to get pretty dirty here I think.

here is my email

Lets stick together.

Hello;
I settled with Zwicker on an Amex account back in January for 55% of a $10,000 Amex account. I dealt with a rep who was very pleasant. We set up a 3 payment plan for Jan, Feb and March, and this month I received a letter from Zwicker saying my account with Amex is settled in full and I am not responsible for any further payments with Amex. It appears to be legit...I certainly hope so! For the record, I could not get them to budge on the 55%.
