Fortunately you live in a non garnishment state. If you are the head of household in Florida they can't garnish. Second, internet lenders fall under the Florida Consumer Financial Act Section 516 which applies to all small lenders in the state. This law requires all lenders regardless of their geographic location to be licensed in the state of Florida. It also caps the loans at 18 percent with no rollovers. If the lender is not licensed in the state the loans are non collectable. So if you have a loan through an internet lender that is not licensed in Florida you need not to worry. Pay what you legally owe and fight back against any collector that comes at you in the future. They have no rights. Some PDLs are licensed in Florida as credit service organizations or loan brokers. They are still subject to the laws but are legal. The storefronts like Amscot fall under a different set of laws. One loan out at a time with all lenders and a 10 percent cap and a 5.00 fee. Worry not, you are in control.
