Hi Wonder
Firstly can you tell me to whom have you paid off the debt - original creditor or the collection agency?
and Secondly, When was the account sold off to the collection agency? Is it before 5/2006 or after that.

Are both MCM and the original creditor reporting? Call the CRA's and ask for the Date of First Default for both the OC's and MCM's tradelines. They should be identical. Per the FCRA, derogatory information can be reported for 7 years + 180 days from the DOFD and no longer. Both the OC and CA or a Junk Debt Buyer (JDB), are held to this standard. If MCM shows a later DOFD than the OC, then they have illegally re-aged the debt. If that is the case, I would send them an Intent to Sue letter at that point giving them 15 days to correct or delete.
Debt was paid 5/2006 to MCM. Account was sold to MCM 11/2004.
Debt was paid 5/2006 to MCM. Account was sold to MCM 11/2004. Both MCM and original creditor are showing on my credit report. They are NOT showing identical deletion dates. MCM also did a soft pull of my credit report 2 years after the account was reported paid(by them). Can they do that?
Hi Wonder If they have made a soft pull, then it is not illegal
Hi Wonder
If they have made a soft pull, then it is not illegal because they must have made a routine check on your account to see whether they have updated the account with the bureaus or not. Moreover, soft pulls does not affect your credit score.
Both the OC and CA listing must come out of you report at the same time. I think that you should wait for the OC listing to come out first and if you find the CA listing still on your report, you can dispute the same with the bureaus.
