If I sign up for the hardship program, is settling more difficult?

Although, even if I sign up, I still won't be able to pay (because I'm saving for the settlement of course).
Any opinion on this is appreciated.

the hardship program is your better option but it seems to me that you are determined that settlement is the right answer for you. If this is the case then the hardship program is a waste of time. they are going to require you to pay something to enter thier program and if you are paying they will not settle. so in my opinion its better to not sign up with the hardship if this is not what you are planning on using scince you are already 60 days late, another month or two they will be ready to start negotiations. and you could have this over in about 6 months or so. if you sign up with the hardship you are going to be back to square one. hope this helps

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. The reason I was considering a hardship program was not to actually pay while on the program but just to appear as though I am truly trying to comply. I want to stay on good terms so I can negotiate a settlement and the pressure is pretty heavy with them (to sign up). It would only be a gesture because It seems like if I don't take these kind of steps it might seem like I'm not concerned enough and get pissed off at me.

The thing is, with the hardship program, they will take you off if you do not pay. I have been on several of them, and if you don't follow their guidelines, and make regular payments, you are off the program.
I am also not sure how they would look at that when you do decide to do a settlement.
Is the amount a large amount you are talking about? One of my cards I was able to pay them off in full after about a year in the hardship program..let us know what happens..karen

If being on the hardship program keeps you current it will be hard for them to offer a settlement. I??m not suggesting but settlements are offered by most creditors after the first 90 days of delinquency. Again I??m not suggesting you stop making your payments.

bumble I think if you stop making payments is the only time you get a smaller settlement! Something is better than nothing they think.. either ignore and do not pay until it falls out of sol or get a settlement if you are too far behind....the way of the new credit economy...
