Hi everyone. I started today my first time home buying process and got a huge shocker. There is a judgment against me for $2600 from Civil Court in NYC. The plaintiff is Colonial Credit Corporation. I have no clue what that is and where that came from. I never recieved any papers or summons. I want to get this off of my credit report ASAP. Please I will like any and all the help . Thanks

You have to find out where they filed the suit. Call your local county court clerk for that. I would try to avoid contacting the CA since they only have one purpose. To get money from you. Then, go look up at the case file to see who the Colonial Credit Corp representing. For them to have a judgment against you, you have to be served with a summon. See if the summon was served properly. Look into the Affidavit of Service in your case file. If something looks strange or fishy with the way they claimed how the summon was served, that's usually a good ground for motion for vacate judgment. I just went through the whole process the my judgment was thrown out. The NYC court system is very accommodating when dealing with credit card debts cases.
