Statue of Limitations/Discover Card/Maclom S. Gerlads and Associates

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me! I got a letter in the mail from Malcom S. Gerlads and Associates. It was a debt collection letter for $1200. I totally freaked out and I called them. It turns out its from a Discover card I had in college from 1995. And it has not been reported in my credit report in the past 7 years.
The guy on the phone said he would settle for $500 and I said I did not agree to anything. He was rude and sort of yelled at me.
I looked on-line and I live in Texas and I think the SOL is over and they can't legally collect this account and post it again on my credit report.
My question is, what should I do? Should I be worried? Should I try to settle with them? Should I just ignore them?
Please help!
