I was looking into my credit report and contacted a collection account that was listed. The company advised me that I had paid the face amount of a NSF check but still owed the service charge. They are now trying to collect on the Service Charge. Is this legal and is there anything I can do about it. They have the check listed from June 2007.

Yes it is legal. They can charge fees based on the face value, and a service fee on top of that - though that depends on your State. What state are you in again?

NSF checks, or "bad checks" are not considered debt, and so do not fall under the FDCPA protection. See Section 818 of the FDCPA - 15 USC 1692p.
