I am just starting to climb out of the hole Ive been digging for a while now.
I have been reading on this site for a while and am still confused about a few things.
1. 7 yr reporting time frame. How can I find the dates for when this process starts. ( like should i call up the CA and ask them? lol) Or when The CA THINK it starts. If I make a payment on a account that a CA is trying to collect on does that RESET the time?
2. If the original account has been sold etc. can I have the original account removed after 7yrs? so that the CA account would still be on there? Or can i get them both removed cause its been 7+ yrs for the original act.
3. Im having a few CA changing dates on me. I think..lol.. They show "Date opened" as recent when i know the act is alot older than what they are saying.
Basically how can I go about finding the date that i need to wait 7yrs from?
Thanks for all help in advance :)
BTW I live in TEXAS :)

Welcome Fellow Texan!
1. Call the CRA's that are reporting the accounts and ask for the Date of First Default as reported by the Data Furnisher for both the OC and the CA reporting. The dates should match and is the date that starts the 7.5 year reporting peiod.
2. If the 7.5 years have elapsed, then you can dispute the OC and CA's tradeline as obsolete.
3. That is accurate. It is the date that they first reported their tradeline to the CRA's. It has no bearing on how long they can report and is not re-aging. Reporting period is 7 years + 180 days from the DOFD. Period.
Awsome thanks for the response. I will get on the phone and see
Awsome thanks for the response. I will get on the phone and see what i come up with :)
Also, Is this a good place to keep this thread going to say take this process from start to finish? like from now until I finally get a good credit score back :0.. Or should i start a new topic in another location on the boards here????
I am finally in a position with work and life to where I can make future plans. Ive settled into a small family business that I will one day take over :) So my income is stable so I figured I would clean my credit up. IM CHOMPING AT THE BITS TO GET THE PROCESS STARTED :):):):) Come to think about it I guess one could say i started about 8 months ago. I have not been late or missed ANY payments on ANYTHING im paying on since then :):):):):)
Thanks in advance everyone :)

Well I called them up and was told to get a copy from the annualfreecredit report thingie. Got it and it has the dates they are estimated to fall off.
There is a few of them that I am pretty sure Is not accurate. I know I have not been paying on any of the old CC acount in many years and some are reporting last year or two years ago to start the 7yr thing.
Should I just start disputing the ones that I think the dates are wrong? How should I word the dispute?
Also What controls are in place to make sure the info given by the ca and original creditor is accurate? Am i really at their mercy here since I have no records?
have you ordered all 3 of your free credit reports? You should
have you ordered all 3 of your free credit reports? You should order one from each of the credit reporting agencies, Transunion, Experian and Equifax. The reason to get all 3 is that the information on each report can be drastically different depending on what has been reported to them.
