I need help understanding SOL in TN

My husband had a credit card he got before we got married. We have been married 13 years. It was at 7000.00 and we were having trouble paying it. We paid what we could and it changed hands about 4 times. Now it is with a law firm who whats us to pay 10,500.00 in a year and we can not do that. What should we do? I know SOL in TN states 6 years but do we fall under that? I don't understand?
