I'm at a loss. NES did the same game with us they did with everyone else. We came so close to a settlement but they refused to remove wording out of the settlement letter allowing them to add charges after we sent our settlement payment in. Since they refused to change the wording, they said the offer was off the table. We sent a C&D letter and DV request. I got back the green receipt card so I know they got it maybe 2 months ago. Never heard a word again.

Today I get a letter from an attorneys office stating they now own the debt and we have 30 days to dispute the debt.....Also this attorney is in our own state now (TN) but I can't find much other than an address for them online.

Did NES sell the account to the attorney? Or is this still related to NES? I have absolutely no idea what to do. Of course the debt is now $3k more than it was when we stopped paying. I know we owe it, but I don't trust anyone after NES lied and played their illegal games they play.

Send this new place a DV letter. Inform them that NO payment will be forthcoming until they can prove the debt belongs to you and they are legally entitled to collect upon it. My guess is NES didn't have the proper documentation so just sold it (or retained this lawyer to try and scare a payment out of you). Don't let them intimidate you.

Thank you so much for the advice!! NES is really a piece of work. I'm just wondering how I could find out if NES did hire them because that would mean they are trying to collect the debt without validation which is against the FTC rules I thought? Or a sneaky way to try and get around it. I'll send the DV letter this week and update when I find something out. Thanks again for the quick reply! :0)
