this is how i found myself in debt i had a liver transplant when i was seventeen i'm 26 now and have a two year old son but when i was about 20 i had about 5 credit cards i was working and paid on them everytime i got paid then i got my first apartment with someone i thought was a good man but i would soon see other wise. i was the only one working paying all the bills and still able to keep up with paying my credit card bills. but then about a month after i moved into my apartment started getting real sick and going into rejection i didn't tell anyone at first because i knew i would have to take time off work and possibly be put into the hospital but my mom came to see me one day and knew and rushed me to the hospital and i was told i got there right on time any longer i wouldn't be here today. so i stayed in the hospital about a month in a half and still had to leave my job because i wasn't allowed to be around alot of people. so i knew rent was due and i had no way to pay it so i started avoiding my landlord then slowly all my credit cards went into collection so finally i went and talked to my landlord about my situation and she helped me keep my apartment until i was able to catch up on my rent now i'm tring to pay off one credit card at a time until i get my good credit back and hopefully that will be one day soon.

Hi Blinkyberry
It is really sad to know that you defaulted on your payments due to illness. But since the credit cards have been sold off to collection agencies and has been reported as delinquent in your credit report, it will affect your credit score for seven years and 180 days from the date you first missed your payment towards the cards. I think that it has been over five years since you defaulted on the cards and so the negative item will stay in your report for 2 years more after which your score will improve.
Can you tell me how may cards have your already paid back?
