How can I find out if a collection agency is legally able to collect in my state. I did go to my states webstites where you can check to see if a agency is listed. It shows nothing listed for the CA or the current creditor. I am sending out a DV,but just wondering if there is a way to know for sure.

The CA is in Texas and I live in Oregon, also I did pay them for a different debt that I did owe, and am now wondering is they can use that against me saying I did not dispute that one and paid them. I just found this fourm a few days ago so I did not know about a lot of this stuff. Thank you.

If you want to find out the whether the collection agency is licensed in Oregon or not, you can visit the link "http://www4.cbs.state.or.us/ex/all/mylicsearch/index.cfm" and click on collection agency search. Hope that this will help.
As far as I know, the collection agency can collect the debt from you if they are licensed in Oregon. Since you have send the debt validation letter, I think that you should wait for their validation.
