For anyone trying to settle with Discover, you must know this.

Their left hand does not know what their right hand is doing. When the regular collections department, or the hardship department (two different groups) call you, they will tell you that your account is not eligible for settlement.

However, they have another group call the 'web group' that does do settlements. Go to cardmemberassistance.com and fill in the blanks on the form there. If you are behind even 30 days you may see a red button on the next page called 'Program Offers' Click on that and you will see 2 or 3 options for your account.

On my accounts (2 of them) it has varied. The first two are usually 12 month hardship programs with reduced or 0% interest rates. The last option is a settlement, payable in 2 or 3 installments.

Here's where the crap shoot is. Each month as your account ages, the settlement options change. The first month on my 1st card, it showed a 70% settlement option. The second month it went down to 50% option. The problem was, I didn't have the funds yet at the time they offered me 50%. So I waited too long and the next month that option disappeared and the settlement went up again (who knows why??)

So I called them and no one knew what I was talking about. The representatives just kept telling me I wasn't eligible for a settlement even though I had seen it on their website for TWO MONTHS! Finally someone said I needed to talk to the 'web dept' and that got me to the right persons.

Talking to them I was able to get the 50% settlement back and I'm now done with them.

On my 2nd account, I'm waiting for the next month statement date to come about. This account they only offered 80% settlement. When I called them, they said they could get me a special deal but it was still 70%. I can't settle any of my accounts for that much or I won't get them all paid, so I'm just watching and waiting.

Try their cardmemberassistance website if you have a Discover card. You're wasting your breath talking to the regular collections or hardship departments, I know, I've talked to them dozens of times (and it is all documented and logged).

I called back the next day to accept settlement. Just wait it out.

How many days behind were you?

I keep getting calls from Discover and I dont even have a discover card. They keep leaving messages that they have a special offer for me. Hello, not interested. Stop calling if Discover is reading this.

guys,

great forum and very helpful info...thank you . I am 180 days behind with Discover. They send me an attorney pending until jun 31, 2012. I loged in to the cardmember assistance website, says i can't view this page. I called the virtual team, the number i saw on the website. The lady i spoke to, said I am not eligible to settlements since they are suing me. I said i would like to seetle, she denied. So signed me up for the program, for 5 months, removing all the fees, but didn't lower my interest rate. the other dept i called few days before, offered to lower the 17% rate and also to remove the fees. but not all of them. The virtual team lady promised to remove all the fees. What should i do? should I stay on the program? or wait until i can get a settlement? Are they really going to sue me?

please someone answer?

THank you
