cancel a payment

whaaaaat?please elaborate.

Moreno, Woods and Associates told me they were a law office and I stupidly made arrangements to make a settlement for a large sum of money. My husband's hours were cut back so drastically that I cannot afford to make this payment. I have made three phone calls today and everytime I speak to someone I am told that they are not authorized to cancel it and will have someone call me back. I have not been able to talk to anyone and the payment will be coming out Thursday. I am afraid if it is taken out that my husband and I will go hungry as well as stop making mortgage payments.
The lady I spoke to originally told me that if I did not pay the amount by the end of the month that they would garnish my husband's wages as well as put a lean on my house.
Is this legal?

Call and ask for accounting. If you cant get thru to accounting, talk to the switchboard. Tell them you need to have a check held or you will put a stop pay on it.

Moreno and Woods is a CA, not a law firm. Does your husband already have a judgement? If not, they cannot garnish, nor can they lien. Depending on how they said it, this could be a major FDCPA violation.
