No, a debt is a civil matter not a criminal offense. So I am confused as to why they will send it to the sheriff's dept. They do not collect loans there. Sounds like a scare tactic. Have they said they filed a civil suit against you?
I am taking it you have defaulted and have not repaid the loan as of yet. Have you asked for a payment arrangment yet?
*FYI* Advance America is LEGAL and can take you to small claims court for recovery of the loan.

I am no lawyer, but I suspect they are trying to bring fraudulant charges against you for false information.
Did you give them the proper info when you applied for the loan? :? Do you owe them on a loan or did you request one recently?

I would call the corporate office and explain the situation. Maybe you will be able to work out a resonable repayment plan that works for you.
Ignore the idiot at the local office. Try and speak with the store manager there, if they are still pulling this nonsense, call cooperate ASAP!
