I've got a mortgage on my credit report that has already been paid for, reporting a balance of $200,000.

My question is:

What will it take to get this account to report a zero balance?

The original creditor Guild Mortgage is reporting the debt, and I lost a lot of paper work in a fire that happend last year. I don't need to remove the whole account, I just want it to report to the credit bureaus as a zero balance and "paid as agreed."

Is there a letter for that or something?

There is a form letter on here for that. You can go to annualcreditreport.com and dispute it there online. You may be able to do this without showing proof. Sometimes these companies will get paid off and they fail to update your report.

If this was paid off in a refinance then you can contact the title company and they can give you proof that it was paid off.
