Does paying an old collection account actually hurt my score????

No, it does not hurt your score. It however helps you to avoid judgments.

Actually, it will hurt your score. Paying it will show a recent update to the tradeline causing a score drop.

I would negotiate a pay for delete on this one. Since it's old they will most likely be willing to do it.
