Can anyone recommend a debt settlement co. that operates in New York? I just tried Absolute Debt Solutions (recommended elsewhere on this forum) but they don't do business in NYS. How do you find a reputable one? Thank you.

Check the potential settlement company out with the BBB. Their grading system sucks since its biased against the settlement industry but you can still see if they have an unusual number or unresolved complaints. Also check to see if they are members of USOBA or TASC. Being a member of either organization doesn't necessarily show credibility but is usually a good indicator.

NY Debt Settlement

Generally, best and safest way to go is with a lawyer who practices debt settlement. They can protect you in court if you get sued, file a counter claim if the creditor violates the FDCPA, FCRA or any other law and of course lawyers owe their client fiduciary duties and must act in the clients best interest.
