In 2006 I finished college with an unpaid amount owed directly to the schoold, not a student loan or any other kind of loan, it was owed to the school.

When I left they told me I owed in the neighborhood of $250, but I get the statement a few weeks later and it is for $900. I called, emailed, and wrote for weeks speaking to whom I thought was in charge of the business office. I was never once given an explanation of why it was higher and he never once looked back at the records or anything, and right in the middle of my correspondence with him he turned the it over to a CA without saying a word to me about it.

Now, 3 years down the road, my credit score has been seriously impaired and I am married and looking to buy a house and am a small business owner as well and this whole thing is screwing up my whole life.

So I found out the man I was dealing with was not in charge, so I spoke with the man who is head of the business office and he immediately went back in the records and found out I was over billed.

I told him I will pay the correct debt in full, but not until he straitens everything out with the CA and the negative remarks are removed from my credit report and I see everything in writing.

That was over a month ago and he dragging his feet and tells me he is busy and has not gotten to it yet.

If I were to get a statement and records showing that I was over billed and the amount turned over to the CA was wrong is there some way I can take this into my own hands??

It was a bill that they billed to me several weeks after I left, which was not due for several months after I left. I know I have not paid them anything but that is because they billed me the wrong amount, they were too lazy to look back in their files and figure it out 3 years ago, and just now admitted that they messed up.

I told them I am willing and able to pay even the $900 (although they told me that they figured out that I now don't owe them the full $900 because they were wrong before), but I will only pay if I have in writing from them and the CA that the negative marks will be removed upon payment.

They were the one's that f*cked up here, not me. I would have payed them immediately 3 years ago if they would have billed me properly. I wasn't just going to roll over and let them sock it to me for an extra $650 that I did no owe them.

I was kicked out of the school, so they said they would bill me. It was may when I left, and it was not due in full until August, but if I recall it may have actually been some kind of interest free payment plan directly through them where I was supposed to make a few payments or something. Don't remember exactly, it was 3 years ago.

Didn't realize I was not logged in when I posted the above comment. but I know for certain is was not a student loan because I paid cash all 4 years of college an never took out a single loan.
