What is the legal status of wage assignment in Maryland?
Can they do that for consumer debt?

did revoke the wage assignment with the PDL company, that's the first thing I did.
I also revoked their ACH authorization, I put stop payments on my bank account because I cannot close it right away.
The PDL company I am talking about is Zip 19 aka Northway Financial, so you all know how rud rude tough they are.
I also discovered that Cash Transfer Centers aka Northway Financial was sent an order to cease and desist from the Attorney General back in 2007.
The questions is...should I advise my Payroll? I really wish I could avoid this. That's why I wanted to know if voluntary wage assignment is legal in Maryland.
I forgot to mention that my paycheck comes from the state of Maryland

All Wage assignment's are revocable no matter where you are, if you want to feel a little more at ease just give a copy to your payroll dept. But once you revoke it they have to right to even forward it to your payroll dept. That happened to me once, I revoked it and they still forward it to my job so my employer didn't honor it. Companies can require you to sign one when they process your loan however once you revoke there is nothing they can do unless they take you to court for a garnishment. But since you are in Maryland and PDL's are illegal they won't take you to court because they won't win.

Thank you very much for your answers!
I have no idea where would I be right now if I hadn't discovered this forum. I was so desperate I didn't know where to turn to.
I started of with 11 PDLs and now I am down to 2, one of which is legal and I will finish paying it off in June.
THank you again for everything! I will make a list with all the PDLs that gave me a PIF right away. And I do want to say that If you paid or overpaid the principle of the loan and you have also revoked their ACH authorization....there's nothing that they can do to you

hello :) i am glad things are working out..
I just wanted to say that in some cases, even if you overpay the principal they still can pursue legal action to obtain the balance. do not be scared, they cannot have you arrested or any criminal charges (there is no such thing as a debtor's jail!) but there are legal payday loans out there.
