Debt Validation
Date: Mon, 05/18/2009 - 13:42
I am preparing some DV letters to mail out. I have so far opted to keep it very simple....the body of the letter currently reads...
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing in response to a letter received from you on April 20, 2009. Be advised that this is not a refusal to pay, but a response sent pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act that your claim is disputed and validation is requested.
Should I be more specific in detailing what "validating" means?
BTW...what exactly are they required to supply for me? The amounts are grossly exxaggerated from my original debt, some have doubled. These creditors are the 3rd and 4th collection companies to get the accounts. I never sent a DV letter to any of the others and I only spoke to one of the collection companies once, otherwise I ignored all the letters and all the phone calls.
I am only responding now becasue one of these is a lawyers office, they seem to only deal in credit issues, and I am trying to avoid them going for a judgement. The amount of this debt is $40k....the original debt was $22k at most.
Thanks for any responses!

For a debt that size and dealing with an attorney I would highly recommend you get your own attorney. It will save you big money in the long run!
