First East - the saga continues

I hadn't heard from any PDL's for a while, but, well, they're still at it; I received a call from "Marc Anthony" this morning w/ a Washington DC phone #. He referred me to a case number and another phone number (202 558 7670) for Trans Litigation National, also a DC #. I called and was told the usual - I owed money to First East, if I didn't pay I'd have someone show up at my job and give me a subpoena, etc. etc. They said I'd been contacted several times by collection agencies with no results. I told them I HAD a few calls but when I asked for something in writing stating I owed a valid debt, I'd never received anything. I told them I was working with the MD Dept. of Financial Regulation and she could contact them. She said she didn't know how we did things "down there in Maryland," but she wouldn't do that. Since the phone number is supposedly a DC number, I asked, "what do you mean, "down here in Maryland, aren't you in DC?" Then she hemmed and hawed.... But! She then said she could transfer me to their liaison office and we could work out a settlement; isn't that wonderful? :wink: I googled the phone numbers and found it was just as I thought - more bottom feeders! I contacted MD Financial Reg., they said this outfit is probably connected to the people in Buffalo who run such things, they were featured on Dateline a few weeks back (sorry I missed that!) Thanks to the MD Commission on Financial Regulation and this wonderful site, I'm getting good at spotting the phony-balonies!
