Recently, I was contacted by a collection agency trying to collect a debt from 14 years ago( A bad time). All my accounts are in good standing for the past 10 years , up to date, and I have a score over 700.

is there a limitation as to how long someone has the right to collect a debt?
can this impact my credit score?

I am having difficulty with understanding the date on the report. How do I count the years that its old. Is the statue of limitation the date you opened the account? or the last date reported as up dated - which is from the collection agency. It says B of A sold this acct. to another lender. there is no amount but the date is 2007.
It said the acct. was opened in 4/1999. Then in 2007 a Factoring Company Account claims $11000. Owing in collection current from them. Says orig. creditor was B of A . But these two have different account numbers on them. The only link is maybe with the date of transfer. Can I say SOL to them?
