More PDL trouble in Texas
Date: Fri, 05/22/2009 - 18:05
First Cash Advance: storefront, both of us owe somewhere around $800. I found them in the PDL database as no longer being licensed, but they are not in the CSO database.
Cash America: storefront, both of us owe $1600. I also found them in the PDL database as no longer being licensed but not in the CSO database.
EZ Money: storefront, both of us owe $1700. I couldn't find them in either database.
No Wait Cash Advance: storefront, we both owe $600. I couldn't find them in either database.
Check into Cash: hubby has a $500 loan storefront, I have one for $300 w/their internet division, loanbyphone.com. I could not find them in either database, though on the loanbyphone website, they have a link to their CSO license in Texas that, if I am reading it correctly, expired 10.31.08. Here is the link:

Would someone please double check me? Before I start writing letters, I want to make sure I have the right info!
Thank you for any assistance! I have already learned so much just by doing research here, and I don't feel as panicky as I was! :)

As far as I know, none of these payday lenders are licensed in Texas and so they are illegal. Since they are illegal you are only required to pay back the principle amount borrowed and not the interest and other chargers.

Thank you, SC! :-)
Brief update: since my original post, Check into Cash/loanbyphone has posted an updated CSO registration on their website. I still do not find them when I search the CSO database though. I also received a letter from EZ Money that states they are a CSO, but again, I do not find them in the CSO database! How is this possible?

Okay, I am hoping that more people will see this. I sent off C&D/revocation of wage assignment letters to all the PDL places via certified mail. Cash America responded with a threat to send the accounts to a collection agency, but the total due also decreased by $100 from the last letter they sent. One of the reps from the storefront First Cash Advance actually called me on my work phone and my cell, which I specifically instructed them NOT to do, and just instructed me to call her. I have yet to get anything in writing from them. I do know that in the state of Texas, OC's are treated like CA's in terms of C&D letters, etc., so I know they weren't supposed to call me. Should I file a report on First Cash w/the AG, etc.? I still haven't fully figured out whether they are CSO's or not!
Please help! Thanks in advance, this site has been really great for information! :D
Pay Day Loan Help
I live in Houston, TX and I'm stuck in payday loan hell. After my husband lost his job things were really tight and I applied for a storefront payday loan from First Cash Advance the prinicpal loan amount was $900. Since Oct 2012 I've paid over $1407 dollars in fees. The currect payoff amount is $1,101.20. This friday I'm suppose to go in and make another payment for $201. I would like to see how I can handle this loan if I close my account. About two months ago I called the collections department and unforunately since my loan hadn't defaulted they wouldn't discuss any type of payment arrangements. I was instructed to either pay my finance fee or pay my loan off no arrangements will be made. I don't understand how I can call and ask for some type of arrangement cause the $400 I'm giving them has put he in a hard financial place we're struggling to maintain our normal household bills. So I had to get another payday loan to keep my lights from being disconnected. I have another payday loan from Cashstore with a balance of $540 the principal loan amount was $475 and I've made payments that totaled $362.62. Any advice any one can give would be greatly appreciate I'm drowning trying to keep up with the loan payments. Help please my time is running out
Thanks guys ...
